You may be wondering, what’s hygge? Pronounced “hooga”, hygge is a cornerstone of Danish culture. There’s no direct translation in English. It’s a bit abstract, but generally speaking, hygge is a warm atmosphere characterized by coziness, friends and family, a good meal, and celebrating the small joys in life.

Join us at Volta on November 10th for a night of hygge cohosted with the Ellsworth Library. We’ll have cozy books, good company, warm drinks, warm treats, and crafts. As well as resources for how to bring moments of hygge into your life this winter.

Feel like day to day, not enough people know you’re a climber? Want to make a statement during your Hannaford run or buying your weekly little treat (my vice is Swallowfield). Come make a linocut climbing tote bag! I guarantee at least one person will say “cool tote” if you attend this workshop. Even if that person is a Volta Front Desk staff member.

Volta is hosting Acadia Center for the Arts (@artwaves_mdi ) for a drop-in Make Your Own Linocut Climbing Hold Tote Bag session on Thursday, November 20th, from 5:30-8:30 pm. Participants of all experience levels are welcome! Mariah Reading will introduce the process of linoleum block printing and provide carving materials and inks of all colors for you to mix and match with!

Volta is hosting Acadia Center for the Arts (@artwaves_mdi ) for a Paint a Climbing Landscape session on Thursday, December 18th, from 5-8 pm. This is a beginner-friendly acrylic painting class on 14x11"canvas board. Learn the basics of color theory, landscape painting, and how to depict the iconic climb above the ocean: Otter Cliff!
